I must say I agree with you Shannon. I would much much much rather splurge on a real-food meal...or better yet...make one of your delicious creations that tastes SO much better and is SOOO much better for you! I truly truly mean that. AND it is so much more fun to make it yourself.

Shannon, this was a good reminder for me. I used to be the junk food queen, eating fast food sometimes for both lunch and dinner. I was gaining so much weight that I was truly miserable, but wasn't doing anything about it - I just couldn't stop. Then last December, I saw the documentary "Super Size Me," about existing only on fast food for 30 days, and that was it for me. I started WW on January 5, and haven't so much as glanced at a fast food restaurant since.

Anyway, I appreciate your post and I agree, if I'm going to splurge once in a while, I really make sure it's worth it, and fast food doesn't fall into that category any longer. I think I'll splurge this weekendby trying your Chicken Kiev and the Apple cider muffins - can't wait!

Gemma -
I can assure you that I do not dine with a calorie counter on the table. As a matter of fact, I have been eating healthy for so long now, that it comes very naturally to me and I no longer count calories at all (I include the nutrition info on my recipes for those people who are still struggling with weight loss, or who are participating in a weight-loss program).

That being said - I love to indulge every now and then. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you (without hesitation) that I will rarely pass up a luscious dessert if it is offered to me!

However, on those occasions when I want to "splurge", I will go out for a decadent meal and order whatever I want (even full-fat alfredo - GASP!) without thinking twice about it. But I would much rather blow my calories on a gourmet-type meal with high quality ingredients - not with mass produced, processed "food products". I do not consider fast food to be a "treat" - I consider it to be junk. It does not taste good to me, it makes me feel sluggish and crappy after I eat it, and frankly (and this is my opinion, many may feel differently) it is a waste of money, and a waste of calories. To me, an indulgence is just that - something that I don't get to enjoy on a regular basis, so when I have it, I want to enjoy it to the fullest. For me, NONE of the items on that list are a "treat" - they offer nothing but detrimental qualities to your body. If I'm going to treat myself - I'm going to make darn certain that it was worth every last bite. As I have stated before, it is all about balance and moderation. Fast food is not condusive to a "balanced" state.
I apologize to those of you who feel differently on this subject. This is merely MY opinion on the matter.

Yeah but still....
I’m a big fan of your page and always try to keep a healthy diet (I’m Mediterranean…) but I also love food – good food – and the pleasure of enjoying a meal without a calories-counter on the table

Thanks for your recipes and tips
