- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and generously spray an 8 inch square baking pan with nonstick spray; set aside.
- Combine the flour, brown sugar and cocoa in medium bowl and stir together well. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, egg whites, butter, milk, honey (or maple) and vanilla until well blended.
- Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and mix well. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) to cover the top of the batter (they will start to “sink”).
- Bake the brownies for about 25-30 minutes (or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean).
- Cool completely in the pan on wire rack. Once completely cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar (if desired) and cut into 10 equal sized squares.

For an extra touch of indulgence, you can add chopped nuts, such as walnuts or almonds, to the brownie batter. They will provide a delightful crunch and complement the chocolatey goodness.
